Benefits & Executive Compensation Counsel Betsy Olson Rejoins Faegre Drinker in Los Angeles
Faegre Drinker announced today that Betsy Olson has rejoined the firm as counsel in the benefits & executive compensation practice in Los Angeles. Olson returns to the firm from Jenner & Block. Olson was formerly an associate at Faegre Drinker from 2018–2022.
Olson advises plan sponsors on the design and operation of their qualified retirement plans, health and welfare plans, and other benefit plans, programs and agreements. She provides practical advice to plan sponsors to assist in strategic benefits planning and ongoing compliance with the complex statutory rules and regulations that apply to these benefits, including ERISA and the Internal Revenue Code.
“The regulatory and legal landscape for employee benefits has become increasingly complex, and Betsy’s exceptional knowledge of compliance, ERISA and other subject-matter areas will enhance our ability to serve clients’ evolving needs,” said Summer Conley, benefits and executive compensation practice leader. “With her strong practice and commitment to client service, we are excited to welcome Betsy back to the firm as a highly valued member of our team.”
Olson has experience drafting and negotiating service provider contracts, preparing government filings, resolving pension and health plan claims, correcting retirement plan qualification and operational failures under IRS guidelines, and responding to IRS inquiries and penalty assessments based on Affordable Care Act reporting. She also assists with DOL and PBGC audits and inquiries, and reviews and drafts plan documents, amendments, summary plan descriptions and employee communications.
Olson earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin–Madison and her Juris Doctor from the University of North Carolina School of Law.
Keeping pace with the changes and complexities of the regulatory environment, Faegre Drinker’s benefits and executive compensation practice group helps plan sponsors and service providers mitigate risk and advance critical human resources objectives. The practice group considers clients’ distinct needs and concerns in developing or modifying benefits plans and executive compensation arrangements. When beneficial, the group’s professionals form multidisciplinary teams — often comprising colleagues from the firm’s corporate, employment, health, insurance, investment management and litigation practice groups.
