Helping Nonprofits Through Boards, Committee Service

In the latest Indiana Lawyer “Pro Bono Matters” column, Indianapolis associate Rachel Phillips and associate counsel at EVERSANA Zena Braish discuss how Indiana attorneys can assist nonprofits through serving on boards and committees.

The authors highlight that the need for pro bono nonprofit representation, as well as board and committee service, is especially high right now as new charities emerge to solve problems and existing nonprofits combat the economic hardship caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Phillips and Braish explain the legal process involved in setting up a new nonprofit organization and how attorneys may help nonprofit organizations by participating in committees, where they often provide a unique perspective. The authors also talked to attorneys who volunteer on boards and committees in the community and highlighted their rewarding experiences in the article.
