Brad Andreozzi Featured in Chicago Daily Law Bulletin

Chicago partner Brad Andreozzi was featured in a Chicago Daily Law Bulletin article on the anti-doping enforcement system at the Olympics. The front-page article appeared on Tuesday August 26, 2008. Brad, who tried cases before the International Court of Arbitration for Sport during the 2004 Summer Games in Athens, as well as before sports tribunals in Switzerland, London and Monte Carlo, believes that the anti-doping rules need to be reformed. In their current state, according to Brad, the enforcement program “punishes innocent athletes to excess and metes out too little punishment to the guilty.” The emphasis on fixed penalties with little discretion for the judges to adjust the sanction to the individual circumstances of the case does have the benefit of leaving little room for favoritism, but comes at a high cost: “What is lost when penalties are fixed,” Brad said, “is the fundamental principle that the punishment should fit the crime.”
