Faegre & Benson Wins Comprehensive Permanent Injunction for Global Traffic Technologies

A judge in U.S. District Court issued a sweeping permanent injunction January 22 in favor of Faegre & Benson LLP client Global Traffic Technologies LLC.

Chief Judge Michael J. Davis enjoined defendant Tomar Electronics Inc. from any future manufacture or sale of products found to infringe U.S. Patent 5,172,113. The injunction ruling comes three months after a jury awarded Global Traffic Technologies $6.75 million in damages for past infringement by Tomar Electronics.

Jim Poradek, who led the Faegre & Benson team, says he is happy with the ruling. "We were seeking a comprehensive injunction to prevent further infringement by Tomar Electronics and are pleased the court granted our request."

Global Traffic Technologies markets and sells the patented product Opticom® optical traffic preemption system.

Original plaintiffs 3M Company and 3M Innovative Properties Company filed the patent infringement lawsuit against Tomar Electronics on April 13, 2005. Global Traffic Technologies acquired the traffic preemption system business and the patent at issue from 3M in June of 2007.

In addition to Poradek, other members of the Faegre & Benson team included intellectual property lawyers David Gross, Chad Drown, Chris Burrell, Matt Stump and Alex Zumbulyadis.
