Northwestern University Creates Fund in Name of Alumnus Barry McNamara

Barry Thomas McNamara was born on May 15, 1944 and passed away at his home on June 28, 2010. He graduated from the University of Notre Dame and Northwestern University Law School and worked for a period in the Chicago office of Gardner, Carton & Douglas.

When Barry was no longer physically able to handle complex litigation and long trials as a result of the effects of multiple sclerosis, he shifted his focus to issues facing the disabled. He served on the board of Access Living, which promotes empowerment for the disabled, chaired a committee at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago, and co-taught a course in disability law at Northwestern Law for over 15 years.

To honor the legacy of Barry McNamara and help Northwester Law build its reputation in public interest, the school has launched a fundraising effort for the establishment of the "Barry McNamara Fund". The fund will support four post-graduate fellowships ("McNamara Fellows") in disability law at Northwestern over a period of four years. For more information, click here or contact Alan Paberzs here.
