Jesse Witten Quoted in The New York Times

Washington, D.C., partner Jesse Witten was quoted in The New York Times in an article titled, “UnitedHealth, an Insurer Switching Roles, Helps Hospitals on Medicare Billing.”

The article discusses how the government is cracking down on hospitals for billing Medicare for inpatients who allegedly should have been billed as outpatients.

Hospitals argue that Medicare’s rules on what qualify as inpatient or outpatient stays are confusing and overly complicated; the rules have been the subject of many lawsuits and congressional hearings. Jesse was quoted regarding the extent of government enforcement activity and other scrutiny. “It’s really reaching a crescendo right now,” said Jesse.
