In Memoriam: Michael O'Sullivan Floyd

We are sorry to report that our former partner Michael O’Sullivan Floyd died Friday, January 9, at the age of 75 of complications from Parkinson's disease at his home in Philadelphia.

Mike joined the firm in September of 1966 and was a partner for over thirty years (from November 1, 1972 until January 31, 2004). He continued as Counsel to the firm until April of 2009. He was a very skillful trial lawyer known for his careful preparation of a case and his painstaking attention to detail. He was highly regarded by his clients and also distinguished himself as a mentor and teacher of younger lawyers (many of whom are still with us, albeit less “younger” than they once were).

Mike graduated from St. Joseph's University and received his J.D. from the University of Pennsylvania Law School where he was an editor of the Law Review and a member of the Order of the Coif. That said, in Big Five terms, he was more a Hawk than a Quaker. As a young man, he worked in the Camden Shipyard and helped build the USS Kitty Hawk. He was later a Director of the Navy League. Mike was a good man in any number of ways but he was a particularly good partner to the rest of us. We will miss him.

Mike is survived by his wife of 44 years, Mary Louise Santor; sons Michael F., Edward W., and Stephen A.; three granddaughters; and a sister.

A visitation from 9 to 9:45 a.m. Wednesday, January. 14, will be followed by a 10 a.m. Funeral Mass at Old St. Joseph's Church, 321 Willings Alley. Burial is private.
