FaegreBD Leads 14 Lex Mundi Firms in Assisting Global Charity Compassion International

Faegre Baker Daniels, the Lex Mundi member firm for Indiana and Minnesota, recently helped global charity Compassion International attain the legal assistance it needed in 26 countries. 

Compassion International, an organization promoting sponsorship of impoverished children, needed legal assistance with compliance around the world including complex advice regarding corporate, labor and employment, employee benefits and pensions, government regulatory and privacy matters in each of the jurisdictions in which they were operating.

With the client’s operations in 26 different countries, FaegreBD tapped into the Lex Mundi World Ready Network, recruiting 14 firms from countries including Ghana, Honduras, Indonesia, Kenya, Mexico, Peru and Thailand.

As lead firm, FaegreBD coordinated communications between the client and Lex Mundi member firms in the various jurisdictions. In order to identify the most important risks for the client in all of the pertinent jurisdictions, the matter was broken out into four major priorities.

The first priority addressed questions related to severance, benefits and pension obligations. The second priority addressed questions related to requirements surrounding daycare facilities, volunteers, child protection requirements, and protection of sensitive information as it relates to children. The third priority was related to more generalized issues regarding corporate structure and banking. The last priority related to employment matters, personal health information, and other personally identifying information.

FaegreBD created a structure for the analyses and worked with the client to pinpoint areas of risk, draft appropriate questions for local counsel, and liaise with local counsel.

Each Lex Mundi member firm provided prompt advice for its respective jurisdiction enabling Compassion International to continue changing the lives of children all over the world.
