Steve Serfass Discusses HIPAA Phase 2 Audits in LifeHealthPro

Philadelphia Partner Steve Serfass was featured in a LifeHealthPro article titled, “Lawyer on HIPAA Phase 2 audits: Take the rules seriously.” The article recapped an interview with Steve in which he discussed his understanding of OCR’s intended approach to the coming wave of HIPAA audits facing selected HIPAA covered entities and business associates, as well as the risks facing such organizations in connection with the audits.

Steve said that organizations subject to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) requirements need to understand how the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office for Civil Rights enforces these rules. “These privacy and data security requirements are meant to be taken very seriously,” he said.
