Law360 Notes Advocate Merger on List of Biggest Competition Cases of 2016
Law360 recently published a mid-year report on the largest competition cases of 2016. The article notes that in the first six months of 2016, federal courts of all levels have delivered momentous rulings that will exert an influence on the antitrust landscape for years to come in the areas of mergers, health care, the pharmaceutical industry and more.
One case mentioned was Federal Trade Commission et al v. Advocate Health Care Network et al, in which Drinker Biddle’s Health Care Competition Team secured denial of a Federal Trade Commission (FTC) request for a preliminary injunction to block the merger of Advocate Health Care Network and NorthShore University HealthSystem.
The article notes that the FTC could not block the merger of two Chicago-area health care systems, saying the “government hadn't provided enough evidence that the partnership would harm competition in the region.”
