Insurance Regulatory and Transactional Attorney John Mulhern Returns to Faegre Drinker in New York

Faegre Drinker announced today that John Mulhern has rejoined the firm as counsel in the insurance practice group in the New York office. Mulhern was formerly with Drinker Biddle & Reath from 2012-2019, where he served as a partner in the firm’s New York office.

Mulhern represents clients in insurance regulatory, business planning and transaction matters at the state, national and international level, with particular experience in cross-border trade. He represents insurers, reinsurers, captives, intermediaries, brokers, start-ups, commercial insurance buyers, trade associations, alternative markets and other participants in the insurance marketplace.

Mulhern has significant experience advising global insurers on strategies to expand operations in the United States – including acquiring existing operations and mapping out market entry and exit strategies. Additionally, he advises industry participants on lnsurTech regulatory issues and a wide variety of e-commerce and cyber insurance issues. He is widely recognized as an industry leader with respect to non-admitted insurance transactions and application of the Nonadmitted and Reinsurance Reform Act (NRRA) provisions in the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform Act.

In addition to his client work, Mulhern interacts with regulators throughout the United States and has assisted state regulators in drafting regulatory and legislative proposals. Mulhern is an active participant at National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) meetings and has served as a member of various NAIC technical resource groups. He is a member of the Wholesale & Specialty Insurance Association as well. Mulhern earned his bachelor’s degree from St. John’s University, cum laude, and his Juris Doctor from University of Illinois College of Law, magna cum laude.
