Overview
On July 11, 2012, Drinker Biddle hosted a panel discussion and Q&A on the impact of the Dodd-Frank Act on the Bermuda insurance market.
The event, which was sponsored by the Bermuda Foundation for Insurance Services, covered a wide range of topics including the newly established Federal Insurance Office and Federal Advisory Committee on Insurance, collaboration among U.S. and non-U.S. regulators in supervising international insurance groups, potential SEC and CFTC regulation of some insurance products as swaps, and the Nonadmitted and Reinsurance Reform Act enacted as part of Dodd-Frank.
Panelists included Pennsylvania Insurance Commissioner Michael Consedine; Thomas Glassic, General Counsel of the District of Columbia Department of Insurance, Securities and Banking and former counsel to Rep. Barney Frank as Chair of the House Financial Services Committee; and Michael Byrne, partner in the firm's Corporate & Securities Practice Group. Dan Krane, also a partner in the firm's Corporate & Securities Practice Group, served as moderator.
