Is a Sale by Any Other Name Still a Sale? Maybe or Maybe Not. Redefining the Definition of Percentage Rent

ICSC California Retail Leasing Symposium

Overview

Sara Hansen Wilson presented at ICSC’s Retail Leasing Symposium, “Retail Leasing in the 21st Century: Evolution or Revolution.” The symposium explores where the retail industry is heading and focuses on the needs of legal, financial, leasing and other real estate professionals who work with shopping center and commercial real estate developers, retail tenants, leasing agents and managers.

Sara co-presented “Is a Sale by Any Other Name Still a Sale? Maybe or Maybe Not. Redefining the Definition of Percentage Rent” with David Matthews of Bartko Zankel Bunzel & Miller. Their presentation discussed how one can account for the effect of internet sales, in-store orders, deliveries and other new retail challenges. They also covered tenant’s “exclusions” and how landlords can account for sales in omni-channel retailing.
