Ethical Considerations in Patent Prosecution

Washington, D.C. partner Mercedes Meyer will speak at the Practicing Law Institute’s Advanced Patent Prosecution Workshop 2019: Claim Drafting & Amendment Writing to be held July 10−11, 2019, in New York City. Mercedes will lead with the first presentation on the program, “Ethical Considerations in Patent Prosecution,” on July 10, 2019.

Mercedes will discuss ethical considerations, including determining inventorship, filing Information Disclosure Statements (IDS), preparing assignments, managing IDS references, considerations when making any certifications, clearing docket deadlines, and running conflicts checks. The presentation is geared toward attorneys who write and file patent applications with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). Mercedes will also cover the USPTO’s rules for professional conduct defined in 37 C.F.R. § 11.
