Peanut Product Recall
The Peanut Corporation of America (PCA) greatly expanded its voluntary recall of peanut products on January 28, 2009. PCA expanded the recall to cover all peanuts and peanut products from PCA's Blakely, Georgia, facility processed since Jan. 1, 2007. Items now recalled include: "all peanuts (dry and oil roasted), granulated peanuts, peanut meal, peanut butter and peanut paste."
PCA distributed these products to institutions, food service industries (including the manufacturers of many consumer food products) and private labelers. Consequently, PCA's products were ultimately used in a broad range of consumer food products and products intended for institutions such as hospitals and schools. PCA's earlier recalls have already triggered a broad range of voluntary product recalls by other businesses and the latest expansion will force many more producers to consider corrective action.
