Trip DeMuth Featured in Law Week Colorado's Top Verdicts

Law Week Colorado released their list of the largest jury verdicts in 2011 in Colorado, as ranked by Colorado Jury Verdict Reporter. Number seven on the list is Stewart Guaranty Co. vs. Dude, a $2.9 million dollar verdict obtained by Faegre Baker Daniels partner Trip DeMuth, on behalf of his client, Stewart Title.

The case was brought after a couple sold their home and kept the entire $3.3 million check they received, rather than paying back the $1.95 they still owed the bank. According to DeMuth, the couple lied when they signed affidavits with Stewart Title, claiming there was no deed of trust on the house. Stewart Title paid off the old loan when the bank began to foreclose on the new owner. The jury ordered a reimbursement of the $1.95 million to Stewart Title, as well as nearly a million dollars punitive damages.
