In Pro Bono Case, Firm Delivers Justice for Injured Federal Inmate

A federal inmate has been awarded $10,000 as compensation for an injury he sustained on a jagged prison bed frame. As detailed in The Indiana Lawyer, Faegre Baker Daniels associate Haroon Anwar and partner Andy Campbell secured the award after being appointed as pro bono trial counsel through the Southern District of Indiana Civil Trial Assistance Panel pro bono program. 

The firm’s client slipped and fell into a 14-inch jagged cutout in a metal bedframe. He suffered a four-inch cut on his arm and a permanent scar. In the decision, Judge Tanya Walton Pratt of the U.S. Court for the Southern District of Indiana noted that prison officials admittedly knew about the “jagged metal edge” but “did not deem it necessary to repair” it.
