EEOC on Track To Open Component 2 Portal on July 15, 2019

Employers may soon be able to submit Component 2 data to the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). The EEOC recently submitted a court-ordered status update regarding the collection of Component 2 data, which includes data related to pay and hours worked, for calendar years 2017 and 2018.

As previously reported, the EEOC announced it would collect Component 2 data for 2017 in addition to 2018 pay data no later than September 30, 2019, although the exact date the portal would open was unknown. However, the EEOC and its outside vendor, The University of Chicago’s National Opinion Research Center (NORC), recently reported that they are on schedule to open the collection of Component 2 data on July 15.

The Component 2 EEO-1 portal has gone live with a static page. While the portal will not open until July 15, 2019, the website will be continuously updated between June 30, 2019 and July 15, 2019 with employer training materials, starting with Frequently Asked Questions, which will be posted on June 30, 2019.

Employers will be able to submit Component 2 data using a Computer-assisted Web Interview (CAWI) data collection instrument in addition to a data file upload function. The CAWI will be available to EEO-1 filers on July 15, 2019, and the data file upload option is expected to be available no later than August 15, 2019.

Notably, employers will receive notices from the EEOC regarding the submission of Component 2 data. Employers will receive an initial notice beginning the week of July 1, 2019, and on July 12, 2019, employers will start receiving portal login information. Employers will receive these notices first by mail and then by email. In addition, employers will receive reminders to submit Component 2 data in August and September 2019 by mail, email and phone.
