National Media Covers Faegre Drinker-Led Internal Review of 2020 Iowa Caucuses

Release of the “Internal Review Report for the Iowa Democratic Party: 2020 Iowa Caucuses,” prepared by Faegre Drinker partner Nicholas Klinefeldt, co-leader of the firm’s White Collar Defense & Investigations practice, and former Iowa attorney general Bonnie Campbell, garnered coverage from national press. The report was unveiled at a press conference on December 12, 2020.

The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal were among the publications citing the report, which was also covered by Politico, The Hill and the Des Moines Register.

The Iowa Democratic Party engaged Faegre Drinker and Campbell to conduct an extensive review and prepare the detailed, comprehensive report identifying and determining the causes of problems experienced during the state’s February 3 caucuses. Among the challenges was the inability to report results of the closely-followed primary contest on caucus night, with an inoperable reporting app contributing to the delay.

Klinefeldt, a former U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Iowa, was assisted in the effort by Faegre Drinker associate David Yoshimura.
