Indiana Lawyer Profiles Julian Harrell and Abe Shanehsaz’s Passion for Music and Law

In the article, “Law firm colleagues connect over love of music,” Indiana Lawyer talked to Indianapolis associates Julian Harrell and Abe Shanehsaz about their passion for music and how it has positively impacted their legal careers.

The publication shared that Harrell has been writing hip hop music for 20 years and is currently working on an album that he hopes educates and connects with others. The article also highlighted Shanehsaz’s music experience as a percussionist from the age of 12 through law school, and how it has directed his legal career as a trademark and copyright attorney.

Harrell and Shanehsaz recently collaborated for a United Way fundraising event, where the two wrote, recorded and filmed a song together for the cause. “It’s so easy to do that kind of stuff with Julian because he is such a potent lyricist,” Shanehsaz explained. “It was a lot of fun.”

Harrell mentioned that he enjoys having a colleague that shares his passion for music. “I think it creates an extra sense of community and sticking power at the firm to have that community and shared passion,” Harrell said. “I think it’s those types of things that make places great to work at.”

Shanehsaz agreed, noting Harrell has influenced his own legal practice by introducing him to artists he’s ended up working with and how much he enjoys the shift from playing music to representing music clients. “It’s actually been a huge joy. I get to go watch Julian and anyone else perform and take it in,” he shared. “It has been really a breath of fresh air over the last 10 years to shift my focus on it and enjoy music in a whole new way, much more like I did when I first started out.”
