Jason G. Weiss Discusses Health Care Payment Scams With HealthcareInfoSecurity

In “FBI Warns Healthcare Sector of Surge in Payment Scams,” HealthcareInfoSecurity spoke to privacy, cybersecurity and data strategy counsel Jason G. Weiss about cybercriminals stealing payouts from health care payment processors.

Weiss explained that from a strategic standpoint, the health care sector contains an attractive pool of potential victims. Its members are “usually focused on helping people, first and foremost, and getting people healthy,” Weiss said.

When users at victim organizations are targeted through phishing and social engineering scams to “help” work out a payment problem, some are inclined to fall for the schemes, added Weiss. “It is basic human nature.”
