SUPPORT 2.0: Congress Renews Action to Address the Opioid Epidemic

In the National Association of Board of Pharmacy’s (NABP) Innovations Magazine, Faegre Drinker consultant Megan Herber and senior manager Nisha Quasba discuss the Substance Use-Disorder Prevention that Promotes Opioid Recovery and Treatment for Patients and Communities Act (SUPPORT Act).

Quasba and Herber highlight what Congress has updated in their reauthorization of SUPPORT 2.0 — including cautions of non-opioid animal tranquilizer xylazine and the Center for Disease Control’s Overdose Data to Action that would provide more data on overdoses to inform prevention and response efforts.

The authors observe 1) the advancements made by the House of Representatives on the Act, 2) expectations of how the Senate will react to the updated Act and 3) the probability of SUPPORT 2.0 passing into law.
