Libby Baney Discusses Dangers of Illegal Online Pharmacies on the Weekly Dose Podcast
Government and regulatory partner Libby Baney appeared on the Weekly Dose podcast to discuss the risks of using illegal online pharmacies.
Baney, a senior advisor to the Alliance for Safe Pharmacies Global, provided an overview on the current state of the online pharmaceutical black market and how regulatory agencies in the United States and abroad are working to cut down on the availability of dangerous and unvetted substances. Baney noted that often, patients don’t realize many pharmaceutical websites are illegal. She said that patients use these websites because of their low costs, convenience and wider-range of access to care, all factors that were exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic. The challenge for regulators lies in helping patients distinguish between safe sellers and illegal ones, Baney noted.
