Janet Fries Shares Insights on Potential AI Copyright Claims for WIRED
Intellectual property senior counsel Janet Fries spoke to WIRED about potential copyright infringement litigation regarding generative artificial intelligence and original work.
Fries said that courts are generally more skeptical of copyright infringement claims related to instructional or fact-based writing. Instead, a stronger case can be made for original work, such as creative writing or poetry.
“Copyright law, generally, is careful not to get in the way of useful things and helpful things,” Fries said.
