Overview
Pierre Avalos assists clients in litigating matters arising from commercial agreements. He gives clients confidence through all aspects of the litigation process and has experience in arbitration, and federal and state courts. Specifically, Pierre assists clients with business-to-business contractual disputes in New Jersey, New York and Minnesota.
Pierre was part of a litigation team that successfully defended against a nearly three-year case, involving claims in excess of one billion dollars and actions in state court, federal court and arbitration. The client reported being thrilled with a confidential settlement that was unthinkable at the outset of the case. Pierre also helped successfully defend against a six-year litigation involving claims in arbitration amounting to the better part of two billion dollars. The case ended in summary judgment entered for our client on all claims.
In addition, Pierre has represented clients as plaintiffs in state court involving other commercial contract disputes. He has successfully assisted those clients with vindicating their contractual rights in commercial leases and loan agreements.
Prior Experience
As a law clerk for Justice Fabiana Pierre-Louis of the New Jersey Supreme Court, Pierre delved into areas of New Jersey and federal law ranging from the termination of parental rights to evidentiary and criminal procedure issues, both to make recommendations whether to grant petitions for certification and to aid the justice in writing opinions. He also researched parties' briefs and other court documents to prepare the court for oral arguments.
During law school, Pierre was a member of the Rutgers Law National Trial Team, leading the team to its first national championship as the Best Advocate in Puerto Rico's 2021 Trial Advocacy Competition. He also was a founding member and the 2021 editor-in-chief of Rutgers Law's first ever peer-reviewed law journal, Rutgers International Law and Human Rights Journal. Pierre also served as a teaching fellow for the Minority Student Program.
