Overview
Sarah Brew is one of the country’s preeminent food lawyers. She is one of only six lawyers nationally ranked in Band 1 by Chambers USA in Food & Beverages: Regulatory and Litigation.
Sarah leads Faegre Drinker’s food litigation and regulatory practice, which is nationally ranked by Chambers USA. She is also a leader of the firm’s national food and agribusiness industry group, which comprises more than 150 attorneys representing many of the world’s leading food and agriculture companies.
With more than 20 years’ experience focused on guiding food industry clients through regulatory, litigation and business challenges, Sarah has earned a national reputation for winning litigation strategies, deep regulatory knowledge, and the business judgment to combine those skills and provide actionable, business-focused advice that clients trust.
Food Litigation Defense
Sarah is one of the country’s leading food litigators, acknowledged by clients and opponents alike for her skill leading teams representing food companies in a variety of complex cases, including serving as national counsel in many of the highest profile and media-scrutinized outbreaks and recalls over the past two decades. Sarah also defends Fortune 500 food companies and retailers in consumer fraud class actions challenging the labeling and advertising of food products, including ingredient and nutrient content claims, “healthy” claims, and sustainability practices. Additionally, Sarah’s practice encompasses complex commercial litigation involving allocation and recovery of recall-related expenses, on both the defense and plaintiff side.
Food Regulatory Counseling
Sarah is a nationally recognized food regulatory lawyer, counseling clients on compliance across the gamut of FDA and USDA regulations; guiding clients through recalls, inspections, enforcement actions and governmental investigations; and advising on labeling, advertising, and marketing regulations and litigation risk management issues. Sarah also works with food industry clients on supply chain contracts and transactional matters, including due diligence in connection with sales or acquisitions of food companies and facilities.
As a leading voice in food law, Sarah speaks nationally at food law conferences and before industry groups, including the Consumer Brands Association, the Food Marketing Institute, the Food and Drug Law Institute, and the International Association for Food Protection, among others. She has served as co-chair of the American Bar Association’s Food & Dietary Supplements Subcommittee, served on the Food and Drug Law Institute’s Food & Dietary Supplements Committee, and was elected to Food Lawyers Network International, a global network of attorneys recognized for expertise in food law.
