With technical experience in digital forensics and network security, Jay assists clients with breach response, information security advice, cyber risk evaluations, computer forensic investigations and policy development. His ability to efficiently manage both business and technical teams in the high-stress environment of a large-scale cyber incident response has proven invaluable to clients.

Litigation and e-Discovery

Jay handles product liability litigation, contractual breaches and wider commercial disputes, and the associated e-discovery efforts. As e-discovery counsel, Jay has overseen the production and review of millions of pages of documents — both hard copy and digital — in such matters as antitrust investigations, product liability consumer class actions and breach-of-contract disputes. He also serves as executive managing director of the firm’s e-discovery subsidiary, Tritura Information Governance LLC, which provides state-of-the-art e-discovery technology and services to the firm's clients.

Representative Experience

• Lead counsel for acquisition of privately held electrical manufacturer
• Managed due diligence, contract drafting and closing of $70 million acquisition
• Managing counsel for complex commercial matter arising from an alleged breach of a Strategic Alliance Agreement in which the plaintiff sought damages of more than $30 million
• Lead in-house counsel for very long-running antitrust defense arising out of trade association activity. Oversaw review and production of millions of pages of documents, both hard copy and digital
• E-discovery counsel for a very large product liability consumer class action matter
• Served as Litigation and Transactions counsel for GE Industrial Systems, where he managed a diverse portfolio of cases and M&A transactions for a $4.5 billion division of General Electric

Previous Experience

Jay previously served in several roles focusing on the intersection of applied technology and law, including as senior counsel for legal technology at General Electric where he created and led their corporate e-discovery center supporting more than 1,200 attorneys. He successfully implemented systems for e-billing, insider trading compliance and patent docketing systems.

Jay also served as president and senior forensic consultant of Verabit, where he conducted computer forensic investigations and provided expert consultation and testimony. Earlier he was a systems architect and lead developer for a database-backed, web-based development company specializing in customized systems for corporate legal operations.

Jay is a U.S. Army veteran and the inventor of a patented tactical lighting unit with synchronized eye protection. He also is an accomplished Java, PHP, VisualBasic and PL-SQL programmer.
