Overview
Prior Experience
Before joining Faegre Drinker, Matthew served as a judicial law clerk for Judge John F. Kness of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois (2022-23) and for Judge S. Kyle Duncan of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit (2023-24). In these roles, Matthew helped these judges manage, analyze and decide hundreds of federal cases. He drafted dozens of opinions to dispose of motions at all stages of civil and criminal litigation. Matthew also benefited from exposure to advocacy at both the federal trial and federal appellate levels, sharpening his verbal and written communication skills.
During his time at Notre Dame Law School, Matthew served as the executive productions editor for the Notre Dame Journal of Law, Ethics & Public Policy and as a research assistant to Professors Gerry Bradley and Paolo Carozza. He also served as an intern at the Narcotic and Dangerous Drug Section of the U.S. Department of Justice and as an intern to Judge John R. Tunheim of the U.S. District Court for the District of Minnesota.
In addition to his J.D., Matthew has received extensive education in philosophy during his undergraduate years and in theology during his graduate years in Rome, Italy. This formation has shaped Matthew to approach solving problems from different historical, cultural and linguistic backgrounds as well as to analyze issues multidimensionally to better serve his clients.
