Overview
Claire Sweeney advances the business goals of clients in the insurance industry, pursuing strategic solutions to their legal and regulatory challenges.
Insurance
Claire provides legal and regulatory compliance counsel to long-term care, life and disability insurers to mitigate risk and avoid litigation. She advises on the contractual relationships between brokers, wholesalers and other financial services entities, facilitating compliance with regulatory standards and optimizing the terms of their agreements. Navigating complex regulations and industry standards, Claire enhances operational efficiency for clients while decreasing the potential for litigation.
Litigation
When disputes arise, carriers look to Claire in the pre-litigation and litigation stages to provide strategic counsel and achieve business goals for matters involving long-term care, life and disability insurance. She regularly litigates on matters related to claims disputes, allegations of bad faith, fraud and premium financing litigation matters. Claire’s proactive approach to litigation and meticulous attention to detail help devise litigation strategies that achieve business goals and secure advantageous outcomes.
Prior Experience
Claire first joined Faegre Drinker’s insurance practice through a program during law school that places students in real-world legal settings. As a student with Faegre Drinker, Claire performed research, drafted motions and observed client meetings with attorneys. Claire then became a legal clerk in Faegre Drinker’s insurance practice, working on litigation matters for life, long-term care and disability insurers. As a legal clerk at a competing law firm, Claire worked with their product liability and mass torts group providing research, drafting motions and preparing for litigation. She updated clients on litigation trends, observed a talc-asbestos trial and gained exposure to the civil litigation process. Before law school, Claire worked as a blended case manager in Philadelphia, advocating for families and children experiencing behavioral health issues.
Personal Interests
When not pursuing the interests of her insurance clients, Claire can be found reading, exercising, spending time with family and friends, and hitting the slopes with her snowboard.
