Minnesota Landowners Secure Additional $16.2 Million in Series of Eminent Domain Cases

North America - United States | North America | United States - Minnesota

In a series of eminent domain cases, Minnesota landowners whose property was condemned by the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) successfully challenged the state’s offer of compensation for the takings.

Our firm represented five separate groups of property owners whose property was condemned by the government for a major road project. As required by Minnesota state law, the government made initial offers to the landowners to buy their properties. The aggregate amount of all five offers was $8,497,500. After hearings in each case before the court-appointed Commissioners, the landowners received awards from the Commissioners that, in aggregate, amounted to $24,730,000 — or $16,232,500 more than the government offered initially.
