Faegre Drinker Continues London Investment Management Growth With Counsel Rupert Barnes

Faegre Drinker announced today that Rupert Barnes has joined the firm as counsel in the investment management group in London. Barnes joins from an international investment management company where he was Head of Legal for the EMEA asset management division. The addition of Barnes follows the news of investment management partner Michelle Moran joining Faegre Drinker in London in June.

With more than 25 years’ experience as both inside and outside counsel, Barnes provides clients with board-level strategic advice and guidance on funds, investment management and regulatory matters. His transactional, regulatory and risk advice has contributed to the scalable, sustainable and profitable growth of international businesses from startups to firms with more than US$100+ billion of assets under management.

“We are very excited to have Rupert join and expand the investment management group in London following Michelle joining last month,” said London office leader Alex Denny. He added, “Rupert has advised a wide range of clients on cross-border legal and regulatory issues and his international experience in investment management is going to be of great benefit to our clients.”

Barnes is a trusted advisor to CEOs, GCs, executive committees, statutory boards and senior business leaders on the compliance, transactional and contentious aspects of investment management. He has established UCITS funds and alternative investment funds in various jurisdictions and has extensive experience dealing with fund service providers, including global custodians, depositaries, fund administrators, distributors, management companies and alternative investment fund managers.

“Rupert’s deep and extensive experience across all aspects of investment management is a significant addition to our practice and represents our commitment to recruiting best in class to service the sophisticated needs of our clients. We are delighted to have him onboard as we focus on the immediate expansion of our investment management practice in London”, said investment management partner, Michelle Moran.

Barnes also advises fund boards on corporate governance and has managed multijurisdictional regulatory change projects. He has conducted wholesale reviews of roles and rotation of independent directors that led to greater board diversity.

Barnes earned his M.A. at Oxford University, obtained his Diploma in Law at City University, London and completed his Legal Practice Course at the London College of Law.
