Modern Healthcare turned to Faegre Drinker Consulting Principal Tricia Beckmann for insight on major insurers relaxing prior authorization processes before federal regulators are expected to finalize an overhaul of their administrative processes.

Since enrollment in Medicare Advantage is increasing, and members often have multiple chronic conditions, it makes sense that insurers are handling more requests over time, said Beckmann. She added that prior authorization represents one of the few ways insurers can contain costs, which translates into lower premiums.
