New EU Directive Could Lead to a Profusion of Class Actions
Business litigation partner Sandra Grannum, product liability and mass torts partner Teresa Griffin and finance and restructuring partner Susan Moore coauthored an article for The Banker that discusses what early action financial services firms can take to avoid litigation.
Grannum, Griffin and Moore provide an overview of the European Union’s Collective Redress Directive, which represents part of a “new deal for consumers” and is a response to high-profile cases involving mass harm or breaches of consumer rights in multiple EU states.
The authors outline 1) the types of claims that fall within the Directive, 2) who sues and might be sued, 3) where the Directive may be implemented and 4) early risk assessment and mitigation.
