A Look at the Indiana Legislature’s Big-Ticket Items

In the Indiana Lawyer article, “A look At the Indiana Legislature’s Big-Ticket Items,” government and regulatory attorneys Lacey Berkshire, Mindy Westrick-Brown and Chip Garver offered a preview of the 2025 Indiana General Assembly legislative session.

The authors note that new Governor Mike Braun has added several new agency heads with legislative and policy expertise, and is expected to further outline his policy goals, such as property tax relief, in his State of the State address later this month. Lawmakers, meanwhile, are tasked with crafting a new biennial budget. The authors write that this comes with increased calls for tax cuts and demands of increased investment in economic development and mental health support.

Other big-ticket items, such as health care cost reform, education, and environmental and energy policy are also likely to be addressed in the coming months, they write.

“By understanding the legislative priorities that are emerging, we hope legal practitioners can better advise clients and prepare for shifts likely to shape the Indiana Code in the years ahead,” the authors note. “As always, the final outcome of these debates will be shaped by a combination of politics and public input, making this legislative session one to watch closely.”
