David Williams Featured in American Lawyer’s ‘How I Made Practice Group Chair’ Series

In a feature Law.com profile “How I Made Practice Group Chair,” David Williams discussed his path to practice group leader for the firm’s investment management practice.

Williams, a member of the firm for 16 years, was drawn to the investment management practice because of the value leadership placed on mentorship and training, and the interesting mix of transactional, regulatory and board governance work. Williams said that as practice leader, he’s enjoyed the opportunity to mentor others growing in their careers and help develop plans for the firm’s strategic growth.

“I’ve always enjoyed building and working on teams,” Williams noted. “In particular, mentoring and sponsoring associates has been a major part of my practice at the firm and I think it is so important to invest in our young talent.”

Williams added that, for other partners interested in becoming practice leaders, he recommended finding a good mentor with career paths that align with your own goals, and to “seek out mentors that have held various leadership positions in your firm who can help you better understand the nuances and responsibilities of the practice leader role that are specific to your firm.”
