David W. Barrett

Executive Partner

Overview

David Barrett helps businesses close transactions and solve difficult corporate problems. He learns clients' businesses and partners with them to provide services in an efficient and timely manner, always making himself available to meet their needs. As a member of Faegre Drinker’s executive leadership team, David collaborates with other firm leaders to oversee the day-to-day management and operations of the firm, including implementing firmwide strategy and policy.

Mergers & Acquisitions, Joint Ventures, Strategic Partnerships

David represents buyers, sellers, joint ventures and investment banks in negotiating and closing transactions across multiple industries, including industrials, manufacturing, chemicals, retail, service, logistics, financial institutions, life sciences, oil and gas, alcoholic beverages, and food and agribusiness.

David represents companies headquartered in at least 16 states, as well as several headquartered internationally. In addition to M&A, he has led multiple joint venture, public-private partnership and other strategic transactions.

David serves clients ranging from very small businesses with single owners to multinational companies. He has handled transactions ranging from less than $1 million to $1.9 billion, with the majority of his practice involving middle-market deals of less than $250 million.

David also assists many individuals and family offices with their various investments, board service, and consulting arrangements.

Succession Planning

David works closely with business owners and management teams over many years to develop and implement leadership and ownership succession plans. Sometimes that results in the transition to the next generation. In other cases, it results in a recapitalization or an exit.

Outside General Counsel, Contract Review and Drafting

David assists individuals and businesses of all sizes in addressing day-to-day legal needs, including organizing and structuring new entities, reorganizing and recapitalizing entities, and reviewing and drafting agreements. He also oversees arrangements whereby in-house counsel outsources all or most contracts for review by Faegre Drinker.

Business owners and investors often turn to David for assistance in navigating disputes with other owners and/or investors.
