Brian P. Clifford

Overview

Brian Clifford helps his clients plan and complete sophisticated, high-performance development projects on time and on budget. Each year he is involved in billions of dollars’ worth of design, construction and facility development deals, and his experience in the construction and industrial automation industries enables him to collaborate with clients and professionals in multiple disciplines to deliver effective and efficient results.

Brian represents owners, developers, sponsors, investors, design-builders, contractors, automation technology integrators and specialty construction vendors in bringing projects online in locations throughout North America. He emphasizes project planning and forecasting, focused risk management, and claims avoidance in preparing and negotiating practical, innovative contracts and deal structures. Brian also is an advocate for his clients’ rights when complex dispute resolution proceedings involving high-stakes projects are necessary.

He has long served as counsel to the Control System Integrators Association and its members, and advises clients in numerous types of private and public development projects, including:

  • Renewable energy generation projects, including wind and solar facilities
  • Automated manufacturing and logistics facilities, including battery technology and food processing projects
  • Multifamily residential and mixed-use buildings, including private student housing and historic redevelopment projects
  • Hospitals and health care campuses
  • Civil infrastructure projects, including bridges, tunnels, rail facilities and water treatment facilities

As the co-leader of the firm’s industrial automation, system integration and robotics practice, Brian and his team support clients in maximizing the value of their projects by:

  • Negotiating and coordinating project financing agreements, development structures, and contract rights and obligations
  • Selecting efficient project delivery methods and completing initial project feasibility and design tasks
  • Performing risk assessments related to project agreements and participants
  • Drafting and negotiating design, construction, procurement, software integration and other project contracts
  • Instituting project controls and contract administration procedures, and managing turnover and project operation

Brian brings his client-focused industry and market knowledge to each project throughout its lifecycle to help his clients find solutions to their project development problems and meet their strategic goals.
