Overview
With keen insights and a winning sense of diplomacy, fine-tuned over the course of his five-year run in foreign affairs, Bob Onghetich is a go-to adviser for clients navigating corporate governance matters and commercial interests.
Prior Experience
Bob got his start as a diplomat in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Kampala, Uganda. He served from 2011 to 2016, notably advising the foreign affairs minister on international trade and economic cooperation as well as the implementation of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations and U.N. Security Council sanctions on individuals and businesses. He negotiated bilateral agreements between the Ugandan government and foreign governments, in addition to managing commercial and employment litigation, both foreign and domestic, on behalf of the ministry. He also represented Uganda in negotiations for the Paris Agreement and the World Trade Organization (WTO) Trade Facilitation Agreement.
While advancing his education in the States, Bob enjoyed an eclectic mix of professional experiences, ranging from a clinical rotation with Elanco Animal Health to two summer associate turns with the firm. He also served as a corporate counsel extern for Thor Industries, where he drafted the corporate governance committee charter and other legal agreements and memoranda, and as a certified legal intern for the Notre Dame Clinical Law Center, where he gained depth in consumer finance transactions and tax disputes.
Personal Interests
Bob enjoys traveling, biking and cheering on the Notre Dame Fighting Irish football team every fall.
