With substantial experience both as in-house counsel and private practice attorney, Elyor Pogorelskiy advises and represents insurance clients in both regulatory compliance and litigation.
Insurance Regulatory
As a member of Faegre Drinker’s insurance practice, Elyor counsels insurers on various regulatory matters. As an in-house regulatory and product counsel with New York Life and MetLife, Elyor advised on life insurance product development, sales and administration, as well as other regulatory compliance issues.
Insurance Litigation
Elyor is also an experienced litigator, and has represented insurer clients in complex insurance matters in state and federal courts, and arbitrations arising out of personal and commercial property and casualty, life and health, annuity, and financial lines. His extensive experience includes matters involving property, environmental, professional liability, general liability, directors and officers, and other claims.
In-House Counsel Experience
Elyor joined Faegre Drinker from New York Life Insurance Company, where he was assistant general counsel, supporting business partners in developing, marketing, and administering fixed life insurance products, including issues relating to new and in-force products. Elyor also assisted with insurer licensing issues.
Previously, Elyor was counsel with MetLife, where he managed individual and group employee benefit litigations, including those regulated by ERISA. He also served as chief of staff to MetLife’s chief counsel for the Litigation, Special Investigations and M&A unit.
Prior to going in-house, Elyor had five years of outside counsel experience — at both boutique and full-service firms — representing insurers.
Personal Interests
In his free time, Elyor enjoys spending time with his wife and experiencing new fatherhood with his young daughter. He enjoys playing and watching basketball, having played in high school and at a Division II college. Elyor is fluent in Russian, his native tongue.
