The Northern Indiana Commuter Transportation District completed a major expansion of the South Shore Line — one of the largest investments in public transit in Indiana history — with Faegre Drinker acting as lead outside procurement and contracting counsel, as well as assisting with project management throughout the course of the project. The $650 million project, which broke ground in 2022, saw 26.6 miles of second track rail constructed between Gary and Michigan City, two miles of completely new right-of-way in Michigan City, platform reconfigurations at five stations, 1,475 new parking spaces, a new power system, and reconstruction at 22 crossings and 20 culverts.
