Overview
Amanda Semaan is an experienced employment litigator whose practice involves defending employers across various industries in complex wage-and-hour class actions, and in representative actions brought under the Private Attorneys General Act (PAGA). She also routinely handles highly contentious, single-plaintiff matters involving allegations of discrimination, harassment, retaliation and wrongful termination.
Amanda represents clients at all stages of litigation, from administrative complaints before the California Civil Rights Department (CRD) and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), through trial and arbitration, and finally, the appellate process. She has first- and second-chaired arbitrations before the American Arbitration Association, and third-chaired two trials in Los Angeles County. Amanda also has extensive experience with alternative dispute resolution, and has had many successes negotiating favorable settlements, including pre-litigation. She is dedicated to helping clients mitigate risk through cost-effective litigation strategies and advice and counsel on preventative measures.
Amanda is deeply committed to pro bono work. She regularly partners with the Alliance for Children's Rights, a nonprofit legal services organization advocating for health care, education and financial support for families created by adoption, foster care and guardianship in Los Angeles County. Throughout her legal career, she has helped nearly two dozen clients become permanent guardians or adoptive parents.
Past Experience
Before joining the firm, Amanda worked as a litigation associate with Arnold & Porter and served as a judicial extern for Justice Dennis Perluss in the California Court of Appeal.
Before her legal career, Amanda worked in the California JusticeCorps Program.
