Andrew Joseph and Ed Gramigna Speak to the Media about Hurricane Sandy
Florham Park partners Andrew Joseph and Ed Gramigna spoke to Reuters, the National Law Journal, the New Jersey Law Journal and Law360 about the impact Hurricane Sandy has had on life in New Jersey and how the Florham Park office coped.
Speaking to Law360, Andrew said that compared to other recent weather calamities, Hurricane Sandy was simply bigger and its impacts have been more widespread. He explained, however, that the firm’s New Jersey lawyers made a concerted effort to remain as operational as possible during the ordeal, utilizing
off-site access to the firm's systems and the resources of offices away from the eastern seaboard.
Noting the two-day closure of most of the firm’s East Coast offices, he said “We haven't had an experience like that [before].” He explained that the Florham Park office had lost power but avoided physical damage and would formally reopen on Thursday, Nov. 1. “That's going to make things a lot easier for us, that's obviously good news,” he said.
Andrew told the New Jersey Law Journal that away from the office, he was “working from the car, working from candlelight,” to stay on top of things while his home was without power.
He explained to the National Law Journal that in New Jersey, where 2.3 million residents were still without power, many people welcomed the chance to go into the office two days after the storm. "Most of us don't have any power, and some of us don't have water," he said. "For some people, it's a good thing we have a gym with a hot shower."
Ed told Reuters how he rented a minivan to make the 15-minute drive to the Florham Park office on Wednesday, after he discovered that his 2009 BMW had been crushed and his driveway blocked by fallen oak trees.
"It's been an ordeal," he said. "Today I was able to get into the office and get some work done."
