Faegre Baker Daniels to Host Inaugural Leadership Academy for First-Year Law Students

On Jan. 3, 2013, Faegre Baker Daniels LLP will host the inaugural 1L Leadership Academy, a free forum providing first-year law students with leadership education and networking opportunities in the firm's Minneapolis office.

Open to all first-year law students, the Leadership Academy is designed to familiarize students with a law firm setting, introduce them to local lawyers, and facilitate development of leadership skills that will benefit students throughout law school and their professional careers.

"Currently, there are few opportunities for first-year law students to get out of the classroom and learn from active lawyers," said Director of Diversity & Inclusion Kristine McKinney. "Our goal is to provide an opportunity for 1L students to hear firsthand, practical advice on developing their leadership skills and give them a head start on professional development."

Students attending the three-hour academy will hear from experts on topics such as developing informal influence, leading complex legal matters, and leading through pro bono and volunteerism. An optional informational session on Faegre Baker Daniels' diverse 1L hiring initiatives will be offered one hour prior to the Leadership Academy, and the event will conclude with a networking reception.
