Faegre Baker Daniels Welcomes 33 New Associates in 10 Practices
FAEGRE BAKER DANIELS (Dec. 18, 2013) — Thirty-three new lawyers have joined Faegre Baker Daniels LLP as associates in 10 practice areas, including benefits and executive compensation, business litigation, construction, corporate, finance and restructuring, health and life sciences, intellectual property, labor and employment, real estate, and wealth management.
Associates are joining nine of the firm's U.S. locations. Nineteen will practice from the Minneapolis office; five from Indianapolis; two from Denver and Fort Wayne; and one from Chicago, Des Moines, Silicon Valley, South Bend and Washington, D.C.
All of the new lawyers have previous experience as law clerks, summer associates, legal interns or judicial externs, or in previous non-legal professional careers. FaegreBD's 33 new associate lawyers are:
Jordan B. Abramson is a member of the real estate group in Denver. Before graduating from Vanderbilt University Law School in 2013, he was a legal intern with Nationwide Mutual Insurance Company. After earning an M.B.A. from Georgetown University in 2010, Abramson was a sponsorship intern with Major League Baseball. He earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Colorado, Boulder, in 2005.
Patrick C. Bottini practices intellectual property law from the Minneapolis office, focusing on litigation. Before graduating magna cum laude from Notre Dame Law School in 2013, he worked for the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office and U.S. Senator Norm Coleman. Bottini earned a bachelor's degree in political science from St. Olaf College in 2007.
Stephanie L. Boxell is a member of the litigation and advocacy practice in Indianapolis. Before graduating from the Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law, Indianapolis, in 2013, she was a judicial extern in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Indiana. Boxell interned for five nonprofit corporations through the Council of State Governments in Washington, D.C., before receiving her bachelor's degree from Indiana University in 2010.
Matthew A. Brown is a member of the firm's labor and employment group in Indianapolis after graduating summa cum laude from the Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law, Indianapolis, in 2013. After earning a bachelor's degree in public affairs from Indiana University in 2006 and during law school, he worked for the Indiana State Personnel Department — first as an employee relations specialist, then as director of dispute resolution.
Helen E. Chacon, a member of the intellectual property litigation group, is the first associate to join FaegreBD's Silicon Valley office. While attending Stanford Law School, from which she graduated in 2013, Chacon was a legal intern for California Lawyers for the Arts in San Francisco. She earned a bachelor's degree in philosophy and economics from the College of William and Mary in 2009.
Patricia K. Devoy concentrates her practice in labor and employment litigation in Minneapolis after graduating magna cum laude from Hamline University School of Law in 2013. She served as an extern in Minnesota's Second Judicial District in Saint Paul and a volunteer clerk in Minnesota's Third Judicial District in Owatonna. Devoy earned a bachelor's degree in political science and English from the College of Saint Benedict in 2008.
Peter J. Farrell practices in finance and restructuring from the Minneapolis office. After graduating from New York University School of Law in 2012, he was a law clerk for three justices in the Minnesota Supreme Court. Farrell earned his bachelor's degree summa cum laude from St. Olaf College in 2008.
Anne E. Fischesser works in the corporate group in the South Bend office. Prior to entering the legal profession, Fischesser was an accountant and auditor at Arthur Anderson and Deloitte & Touche in Chicago and Crowe Horwath in South Bend. She graduated from Indiana University Maurer School of Law, Bloomington, in 2013 and earned her bachelor's degree in business from the University of Notre Dame in 2001.
Isaac B. Hall practices in the litigation and advocacy group in the Minneapolis office. During law school, Hall was a summer associate at Faegre Baker Daniels and worked as a law clerk for the Wisconsin Circuit Court for St. Croix County. He also interned for Congressman Ron Kind of Wisconsin in 2009 and volunteered with Hillary Clinton's 2008 presidential campaign. Hall earned his J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School in 2013 and his bachelor's degree in political science from George Washington University in 2010.
Samantha Heaton is a member of the wealth management practice in Minneapolis, where she implements comprehensive estate plans through wills, trust agreements and related documents. Heaton graduated from Harvard Law School in 2013, earned a master's degree in theological studies from Emory University in 2008 and a bachelor's degree in religion from St. Olaf College in 2006.
Miranda S. Hirner practices with the corporate group out of the Minneapolis office, focusing on mergers and acquisitions, capital markets transactions, securities regulation, and corporate governance. During law school, Hirner clerked in the legal department for Target Corp. and served as a judicial extern for the Honorable John R. Tunheim of the U.S. District Court for the District of Minnesota. She is a 2013 graduate of the University of Minnesota Law School, where she was managing editor of the Minnesota Law Review and a 2010 graduate of the University of Wisconsin, Madison, where she studied marketing and political science.
Atul Jain is a member of the ERISA (Employee Retirement Income Security Act), benefits and executive compensation group in Minneapolis. He earned an LL.M. in taxation with distinction from Georgetown University Law Center in 2013 and a J.D. from Emory University School of Law in 2012. While pursuing his LL.M., Jain served as an extern in the employee benefits practice of an international law firm in Washington, D.C. As a law student, he was an extern for the Coca-Cola Co. in Atlanta, a law clerk for the partnership owning the NBA's Atlanta Hawks and Philips Arena, and as an operations intern for the NBA's Minnesota Timberwolves. Jain earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Illinois in 2009.
Grace Kim is a patent attorney in the intellectual property group at FaegreBD, working in the Minneapolis office. Prior to embarking on her legal career, Kim worked in Boston Scientific's cardiology, rhythm and vascular (CRV) research and development engineering department for more than 10 years. Kim received her J.D. from William Mitchell College of Law in January 2013. She has an M.S. in mechanical engineering and B.S. in chemical engineering, both from the University of Minnesota.
Aaron P. Knoll practices in the litigation and advocacy group in Minneapolis, where he represents clients in complex commercial disputes. Before joining the firm, Knoll clerked for the Honorable Christopher J. Dietzen of the Minnesota Supreme Court. He graduated summa cum laude from the University of St. Thomas School of Law in 2012 and magna cum laude in history and geography from the University of Minnesota in 2009.
Andrew J. Krafcheck is a member of the firm's corporate practice in Fort Wayne where he focuses on real estate transactions and ongoing corporate matters. Before graduating cum laude from the Indiana University Maurer School of Law, Bloomington, in 2013, he was a judicial clerk in Allen Circuit Court in Fort Wayne. In 2009, Krafcheck graduated from the Purdue University Krannert School of Management in accounting and management.
Anne J. Lee practices in intellectual property, focusing on patent litigation from the Denver office. Before graduating from the University of Colorado Law School in 2013, she spent eight years as a product marketing manager at Hewlett-Packard Company after five years as a product design engineer at Ford Motor Company. Lee earned a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from Stanford University in 1995.
Sari M. Long is a member of the firm's labor and employment group, concentrating on immigration and global mobility matters from Washington, D.C. Before graduating from the Northeastern University School of Law in 2013, she developed experience advising on U.S. business immigration-related matters with Akamai Technologies. Between earning a bachelor's degree from McGill University in 2003 and a master's degree from Harvard University in 2010, Long spent time as an immigration paralegal at FaegreBD.
Asim Mandhai focuses his practice on finance and restructuring in Minneapolis. Before graduating cum laude from the University of Florida Levin College of Law in 2013, he owned and operated his own financial consulting firm. Mandhai served as a legal intern for a business law firm during law school. He earned a bachelor's degree in political science from UCLA in 2001.
Christiana M. Martenson focuses on commercial litigation and works in the Minneapolis office. During law school, she worked as a student attorney in the Federal Appellate Litigation Clinic and the General Law Clinic with the Michigan Clinical Law Program. Prior to law school, Martenson served with Teach for America, instructing reading and writing on the Navajo Indian Reservation in New Mexico. She graduated cum laude from the University of Michigan Law School in 2013 and magna cum laude with a bachelor's degree in English from Middlebury College in 2008.
Holly A. Miller is a member of the intellectual property practice in Minneapolis, where she focuses on trademark, copyright, advertising and media (T-CAM) protection and IP litigation matters. She earned a dual law degree and master's degree in mass communication in 2013 and a bachelor's degree in journalism and mass communications in 2010, all from the University of Minnesota. During law school, Miller worked as a research assistant at the Silha Center for the Study of Media Ethics & Law, where she was writer and editor for the Silha Bulletin.
Mauri Miller counsels public and private companies in corporate and securities law from Indianapolis. Before graduating from Notre Dame Law School in 2013, he completed internships with the Madge Bradley Domestic Violence Clinic in San Diego and Marion County Superior Court in Indianapolis. After earning a bachelor's degree from the Indiana University Kelley School of Business, Indianapolis, in 2009, Miller co-directed the internship program for The DREAM Project in Cabarete, Dominican Republic.
Matthew C. Olsen practices in the construction and real estate litigation group in the Fort Wayne office. During law school, Olsen worked as a law clerk at Doyle Legal Corporation, where he assisted on title litigation, real estate transactions, mortgage foreclosures and general property law matters. He also helped draft legislation on permitting the strict foreclosure of junior omitted lienholders that was later adopted by the Indiana Land Title Association and passed by the Indiana Legislature. Olsen graduated summa cum laude from Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law, Indianapolis, in 2013, and earned a bachelor's degree in political science with high distinction from Indiana University, Bloomington, in 2009.
Vincent L. Pham practices patent law in the intellectual property group in Minneapolis. Pham graduated from the University of Minnesota Law School with a concentration in intellectual property and technology law in 2013. He earned a bachelor's of engineering in electrical engineering from the University of Minnesota in 2007. Between undergraduate and law school, he worked as a business technology analyst with Deloitte Consulting and as a technical manufacturers' representative with Innovate Sales, Inc. in St. Paul, Minnesota.
Samantha M. Rollins is a member of the firm's labor and employment group in Des Moines after graduating with highest distinction from the University of Iowa College of Law in 2013. After earning a bachelor's degree with highest honors from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, in 2005, she spent five years at General Electric in operations. During law school, Rollins was a summer associate at FaegreBD and a research assistant at the University of Iowa College of Law.
Carlos J. Ruiz works with the real estate group in the Minneapolis office. During law school, he was a legal extern for the University of Illinois Office of University Counsel and clerked in São Paulo, Brazil, at the firm of Pinheiro Neto Advogados. Ruiz graduated from the University of Illinois College of Law in 2013 and earned a bachelor's degree in public affairs from Baruch College in 2009.
Sarah E. Sharp is a member of the finance and restructuring group in Indianapolis. Before graduating from the Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law, Indianapolis, in 2013, she was a summer associate at FaegreBD in 2011 and 2012. After earning a bachelor's degree from Purdue University in 2008, Sharp spent two years as a communications assistant with an Indianapolis law firm and as an assistant coach for Park Tudor's state championship high school lacrosse team in 2006.
Bryan J. Smith focuses his practice in health and life sciences from the Minneapolis office. Before graduating cum laude from the University of Minnesota Law School in 2013, he worked as a summer associate at 3M Company and UnitedHealth Group, Inc. After graduating from the Hofstra University Frank G. Zarb School of Business in 2008, Smith worked in private wealth management at Merrill Lynch & Co., Inc.
Kevin R. Tamm is a member of the firm's intellectual property group in Indianapolis, focusing on patent prosecution in the chemical and mechanical arts. He graduated magna cum laude from the University of Cincinnati College of Law in 2013 and summa cum laude from the University of Pittsburgh Swanson School of Engineering in 2009. Tamm was a law clerk for the Environmental Health and Safety Legal Department at GE Aviation in Cincinnati and a chemical associate in civil engineering at Michael Baker Jr., Inc. in Pittsburgh after earning his bachelor's degree in chemical engineering.
Hanna L. Terhaar practices in the litigation and advocacy group in Minneapolis, where she focuses on trade secret litigation and other complex commercial disputes. Terhaar graduated magna cum laude from the University of St. Thomas School of Law in 2013 and earned a bachelor's degree in legal studies from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, in 2008.
Sara Wenzel practices in the construction and real estate litigation group in Minneapolis. She worked as a judicial extern for the Honorable Michael J. Davis in the U.S. District Court, District of Minnesota, while in law school and also as a student certified attorney in the Hennepin County Attorney's Office. Wenzel graduated summa cum laude from William Mitchell College of Law in 2013 and summa cum laude from Luther College with a B.A. in economics and sociology in 2008.
Graham P. Widmer practices in the firm's ERISA (Employee Retirement Income Security Act), benefits and executive compensation group in Minneapolis. Before graduating summa cum laude from the University of Minnesota Law School in 2013, he was a summer intern in the legal department of Samsung Heavy Industries in Seoul, Korea. After receiving a bachelor's degree from the University of Illinois in 2007, Widmer taught English as a second language at Igaem School in Busan, Korea, and was a volunteer on environmental projects with AmeriCorps in Reno, Nevada.
Ryan Woessner is a member of the corporate and franchise and distribution practices in the Minneapolis office. He focuses primarily on cross-border transactions and mergers and acquisitions. Woessner interned with the International Institutions and Global Governance Program at the Council on Foreign Relations in New York City. As an undergraduate student, he interned at Transparent Democracy in Palo Alto, California, and in the office of U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar in Washington, D.C. Woessner earned his J.D. from the University of Virginia Law School in 2013 and his B.A. in political science from Stanford University in 2010.
Kristen E. Wolfe is a member of the firm's labor and employment practice group in Chicago. Before graduating from the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law in 2013, she was a part-time legal clerk with a Rochester Hills, Michigan, law firm; a volunteer mediator at the Wayne Meditation Center in Dearborn, Michigan; and a legal intern with a Chicago metropolitan law firm. Wolfe earned her bachelor's degree from the University of Colorado in 2010.
