National Defense Authorization Act Extension Represents Pro Bono Victory for FaegreBDC Client IRAP
FaegreBD Consulting’s pro bono client, the International Refugee Assistance Project (IRAP), celebrated another milestone on behalf of U.S. allies in Afghanistan with the passage of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) last week. The passage of the Fiscal year 2016 NDAA ensures that the Special Immigrant Visa (SIV) program will continue and the nation will uphold its promise to protect U.S. allies in Afghanistan. The SIV provision within the NDAA provides an additional 3,000 visas for Afghan allies
“This legislation allows thousands of Afghan allies to access life-saving visas,” Betsy Fisher, IRAP Deputy Policy Director, said in a statement. “The United States has announced that it will keep over 5,000 troops in Afghanistan indefinitely, and our Afghan clients who have served as interpreters alongside U.S. troops and diplomats report that the Taliban has increased its threats and attacks against them. These individuals continue to need the SIV program to protect themselves and their families.”
