Alumni News and Moves: Summer 2015

Throughout the world our alumni are accomplishing great things and making big (and small) changes. Our alumni have forged diverse career paths and taken on interesting new adventures and personal challenges.

• Guilherme Costa (former Health Care associate) was promoted to Deputy General Counsel at the University of Idaho.
• David Schaffer (former Litigation associate) joined Miller Canfield as Principal and Corporate group Co-Leader.
• Sandy Stein (former Litigation associate) joined Miller Canfield as Of Counsel.
• Nancy Cantaloupo (former Intellectual Property associate) joined Barry University School of Law as a Professor of Law.
• Justin Brennan (former Corporate associate) joined VWR as Corporate Counsel.
• Donna Thiel (former Health Care partner) joined Baker Donelson as Shareholder.
• Isabel Duffy (former Litigation associate) was promoted to Associate Vice President at Merck & Co.
• Michelle Kern (former Corporate associate) joined Horizon Pharma USA, Inc. as Senior Regulatory Counsel.
• Tekisha Everette (former Government and Regulatory Affairs manager) moved to Connecticut to become the Executive Director at Health Equity Solutions.
• Meredith Murphy (former Labor and Employment associate) joined Samsung Electronics America, Inc. as Legal Counsel, Employment and Compliance.
• Dee Armstrong (former Employee Benefits and Executive Compensation associate) joined Sidley Austin as a Global Finance Associate.
• George Galt (former Corporate associate) joined AOL as Assistant General Counsel.
• Nancy Borders (former Corporate associate) was named General Counsel at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hopsital of Chicago.
• Susan Macaulay (former Corporate Restructuring partner) joined Culhane Meadows PLLC in Chicago, IL.
• Joy Burkholder Meier (former Labor and Employment associate) became General Counsel at Corvisa.
• Joshua Kaplowitz (former Litigation associate) joined the U.S. Department of the Interior, Office of the Solicitor as an Attorney-Advisor.
• Rachel Brown (former Corporate tax associate) joined Expedia, Inc. as Tax Manager.
• Kevin Walsh (former Corporate associate) relocated from Philadelphia to Phoenix and joined Quarles & Brady LLP in their Business Law Group.
• Josh Bernstein (former Corporate associate) became Senior Corporate Counsel at OTG based in Chalfont, PA.
• Susan Lester (former Intellectual Property associate) joined McDonald's in-house legal team as Counsel.
• Renee Battisti (former Labor and Employment associate) became General Counsel of AlphaImpactRX.
• Ngozi Okorafor (former Government and Regulatory Affairs associate) became Chief Legal Counsel for the Illinois Department of Human Rights.

• Scott Fisher (former Commercial Litigation partner) was named Managing Partner of Neal, Gerber & Eisenberg, LLP, effective January 1, 2016.John Blumers (former Labor and Employment associate) edited his profile.
• Governor Chris Christie Nominated Alumnus Russell Passamano to the NJ Superior Court.
• John Schultz (former Products Liability and Mass Tort associate) received the National Legal Aid & Defender Association's 2015 Exemplar Award at the organization's prestigious Exemplar Award Dinner on Tuesday, June 23. The award honors individuals who display exceptional leadership in advancing the cause of legal representation for those unable to afford counsel.
• We lost our our former partner, colleague and good friend, Charles "Chuck" Freeman on June 10. Chuck passed away from an apparent heart attack. See more information here.
• On May 20, President Barack Obama nominated Jessica Rosenworcel (former Government and Regulatory Affairs associate) for Commissioner, FCC. Jessica has been a Commissioner since 2012.
• President and CEO of Mercy Health, Michael D. Connelly (former Health Care associate), received the American Jewish Committee's 2015 National Human Relations Award at the committee's tribute dinner on May 11.
• Acting General Counsel of Calvert Investments, Inc., Ivy Duke (former Invesment Management associate), became a member of the Board of Directors of Children's Hospital in Washington, D.C.
• David Primack (former Corporate Restructuring associate) was elected Partner at his firm, McElroy, Deutsch, Mulvaney & Carpenter, LLP.
