Alumna Markita Morris-Louis Nominated for Social Innovations Journal Award

Alumnus Markita Morris-Louis, Senior Vice President of Community Affairs and General Counsel at Clarifi, has been nominated for a PHILADELPHIA Social Innovations Journal (SIJ) award in Social Mobility. Winners will be announced at the first-ever SIJ awards event on Thursday, January 26, 2017. The event is intended to honor the region’s most passionate and accomplished social innovators and entrepreneurs and the work they are doing to make Greater Philadelphia a more inclusive, equitable and thriving region of opportunity for its residents.

According to the publication’s website, “Social Innovations Journal (SIJ) is the first regionally focused, volunteer-driven online publication and knowledge lab dedicated to social innovators and entrepreneurs. The journal’s mission is “to promote innovative ideas, incubate social innovation and thought leadership (i.e., teaching leaders how to think and not what to think), and to spark a culture of innovation leading to improved products and services, systems and policies.” To read more about SIJ, click here. Award winners are selected by the public from among those who exemplify the tenants of social enterprise and innovative thinking and will be announced at the January 26 awards event. Nominees include individuals and organizations from the non-profit, for-profit and governmental sectors who have demonstrated a bold determination to solve social problems through bold and innovative methods.

Markita has been with Clarifi since departing the firm in April of 2013. In her current role, Markita oversees Clarifi's education, community outreach and consumer advocacy efforts. She is also committed to mentoring professional women and women in underserved markets. In 2015, Markita was honored by the Philadelphia Business Journal as a Woman of Distinction. Markita was a summer associate at the firm in 2002 and joined Drinker Biddle as a full-time associate in the Real Estate practice group in the fall of 2003. She received a Bachelor of Arts in African Studies from Brown University and earned her J.D. from the New York University School of Law.
