Mark W. Phillips Joins Drinker Biddle’s Health Care Group

Mark W. Phillips has joined Drinker Biddle & Reath LLP as a member of the firm’s Health Care Group. He will reside in the firm’s Washington, D.C. office.

“Mark brings valuable experience in the area of hospital cost savings initiatives, which fits with our strategic goals as we continue to add depth to our practice,” said Doug Swill, chair of the Health Care Group. “His depth of experience negotiating a wide range of outsourcing contracts from food services, environmental services, patient transportation services, plant operations and maintenance, laundry services and vending services broadens our capabilities in serving existing and potential clients in this arena.”

Mr. Phillips most recently served as Assistant General Counsel for Compass Group USA, Inc. His primary responsibilities included negotiation of contracts for Morrison Management Specialists, Inc. and Crothall Healthcare, which provide food service offerings and facilities management services to health care facilities and senior living communities around the United States. Mr. Phillips has negotiated hundreds of purchased service agreements, including purchased services agreements for food and nutrition services and environmental services involving many of the largest health systems around the country.

His significant experience with outsourcing agreements, group purchasing organization agreements, leases, software licensing agreements, consulting agreements, non-disclosure agreements and business associate agreements is an asset to a wide range of clients outside of the health care sector, including the areas of business, education and contracts for sporting venues.

Mr. Phillips’ industry experience and finance background give him a unique ability to advise clients on financial and operational issues related to outsourcing arrangements. This will provide clients with more insight into striking better business deals and help business teams develop innovative solutions to financial and operational issues that arise during contract negotiations.

Prior to joining Compass Group, he was a litigator with Robins, Kaplan, Miller and Ciresi. In addition to his law degree from Wake Forest University, Mr. Phillips holds a MBA in finance from Georgia State University.
