Drinker Biddle’s Executive Women’s Forum Hosts Jean Case for Discussion on Being Fearless
Drinker Biddle’s Executive Women’s Forum hosted an event featuring Jean Case, Chairman of the National Geographic Society and CEO of The Case Foundation, where she discussed her new book, Be Fearless.
More than 80 women from a wide range of industries, including the legal, health care, nonprofit and public sectors, to name a few, attended the exciting event to network and hear from the technology pioneer, philanthropist and investor. Jessica Abrahams, chair of the firm’s Government Contracts Team, moderated the discussion with Jean, who talked about her humble upbringing and career, and how everyone can find that inner spark to create change in the world.
Through her work at the Case Foundation, Jean found that innovators and changemakers didn’t come from wealth or privilege, nor were they textbook geniuses. What they all possessed was a common passion for creating change in the world, and they lived by five core principles that are featured in the book:
- Make a big bet
- Be bold, take risks
- Make failure matter
- Reach beyond your bubble
- Let urgency conquer fear
Transformational change starts with a revolutionary idea, Jean said, and big bets happen as the result of either watching where trends are headed or deciding to start a new one. It’s important to get out of your comfort zone, be bold and don’t be afraid to take risks.
