Alumni News and Moves – Fall 2019

Our alumni have forged diverse career paths and taken on interesting new adventures and personal challenges. They are thought leaders, industry experts, advisers, mentors, advocates, business executives, elected and appointed officials, and trusted professionals.

We are proud of the contributions our alumni continue to make to the legal and business communities, grateful for the time they spent with the firm and honored that so many have stayed in touch with the firm and with each other.

  • Lindsay Orr (WM/Litigation/2012) joined Chesapeake Utilities Corporation as Associate General Counsel in November 2019. 
  • Staffing Industry Analysts (SIA) names Amy Feldman (PH/Labor and Employment/1994) to its 2019 Global Power 150 Women in Staffing List. The list includes 100 of the staffing industry’s most influential women in the Americas and 50 in the global staffing industry. The editor and publisher, media products, at SIA said, “The women named to this year’s Global Power 150 list play an important role in bringing value to the workforce solutions ecosystem, elevating not only the bottom line for their organizations but lifting up their teams through a passionate focus on employee development and creation of positive and inclusive cultures in which talent thrives.” Amy serves as General Counsel to the Judge Group. She is also a nationally syndicated legal correspondent. 
  • Joanna Collias Gatzulis (CH/Litigation/2004) joined The Northern Trust Company as Senior Vice President and Senior Legal Counsel in November 2019.
  • Brian Mudge (PH/Litigation/1991) joined Jordan IP Law, LLC as Senior Counsel in November 2019.
  • Brian Sgrignoli (PH/Litigation/2005) joined W. L. Gore & Associates, Inc., Fabrics Division as Compliance Officer in November 2019.
  • Toni Bennett (FP/Environmental/1998) joined Catalent Pharma Solutions as Senior Counsel in November 2019.
  • Bridget Asplund (FP/Litigation/2003) joined Verizon as Corporate Recruiter in November 2019.
  • Brian Morrison (FP/Litigation/2015) joined Tadler Law as Counsel in November 2019.
  • Paula Jones (PH/Private Client/2012) presented on “U.S. Estate and Income Tax” at the Estate, Tax and Financial Planning for Offshore Americans event in Singapore on November 5, 2019, and again in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, on November 6. Paula is currently a principal of her own firm, Paula M. Jones Law Offices, Inc. – International and Domestic Estate Law.
  • Dennis Morrow (PH/Litigation and Insurance/2009) welcomed twin boys to the world on November 1, 2019. All are doing well and the boys’ big sister is thrilled about her new role.
  • Alan Cardenas (PR/Corporate/2007) was featured in an article in Hispanic Executive on October 28, 2019. Alan is Lead Counsel at Siemens. In the article, “At Siemens, Alan Cardenas Fosters Cultural Intelligence,” Alan discusses cultural competency, the changing dynamics of in-house legal departments, the impact of technology and more.
  • Patrick Harrington (PH/Insurance/2014) was promoted to Partner at Dilworth Paxson LLP in October 2019.
  • Mary E. Bartkus (FP/Litigation/1980) has been appointed to the panel of arbitrators of the International Centre for Dispute Resolution. She is Special Counsel at Hughes Hubbard & Reed LLP.
  • Thomas Lanctot (CH/Corporate/1977) joined Catholic Investment Services as Chief Executive Officer in October 2019.
  • Brian Astrup (PH/Litigation/2011) joined Mars Wrigley Confectionery US, LLC as Counsel in September 2019.
  • Elizabeth Lopez (CH/Litigation/2007) was promoted to Managing Counsel at United Airlines in September 2019.
  • DeMaris Trapp (PH/Labor and Employment/2013) joined Howard University as Associate General Counsel for Faculty Affairs and Employment in September 2019.
  • Heather Sager (SF/Labor and Employment/2007) became Partner at Perkins Coie LLP in September 2019.
  • Mary Elizabeth Warner (FP) joined HFO Services Corporation as President in September 2019.
  • Christine Lozier (FP/Products Liability/2016) joined Novo Nordisk as Senior Attorney in September 2019.
  • Susannah Ragab (SF/Real Estate/2015) joined Recurrent Energy as Real Estate Counsel in September 2019.
  • Mark Bergner (CH/Intellectual Property/2008) joined IBM as Lead Patent Attorney in September 2019.
  • Stephen Kessler (PH/Real Estate/2012) joined Fernmoor Homes as General Counsel in September 2019.
  • Christine Baker (PR/Litigation/1990) joined the New Jersey Economic Development Authority (NJEDA) as Senior Vice President, Strategic Initiatives & Operations in September 2019.
  • Deb Shuff (Philadelphia/Environment and Energy/2001) joined Johnson & Johnson as Senior Counsel, Regulatory Law in September 2019.
  • Lori Sanders (PH/Environment and Energy/2006) was promoted to Chief Environmental Counsel of Du Pont de Nemours, Inc., effective August 1, 2019.
  • Todd Rushe (CH/Real Estate/2002) joined CBRE as Project Management Development Director in August 2019.
  • Kooshan Nayerahmadi (PH/Litigation/2007) is now Regional Managing Counsel, Asia Pacific at Merck & Co. and based in Singapore.
  • Grant Nichols (PH/Insurance/2006) recently joined CAC Specialty, a combined specialty insurance brokerage and investment banking platform as Senior Vice President.
  • Mark Sullivan (PR/Corporate/1998) joined Sesen Bio as General Counsel in August 2019.
  • Jay Volk (PH/Corporate/1996) joined CareCredit as Vice President of Business Development in August 2019.
  • Janice Grubin (NY/Corporate Restructuring/2006) joined Barclay Damon, LLP as Partner in August 2019.
  • Mike Remington (DC/Intellectual Property/1996) was recently elected a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation in recognition of exemplary dedication to the highest principles of the legal profession, commitment to the welfare of society and support for the ideals of the ABF.
  • Russ Wood (SF/Corporate/2006) recently joined Forge Global, Inc. (formerly Equidate) as Chief Counsel, Legal and Business Affairs.
  • George Papanier (PH/Insurance/2010) recently launched a private insurance consulting and brokerage firm, AXG Advisors, which represents clients with sophisticated risk management needs. The firm specializes in assisting affluent individuals and families by creating unique solutions to evaluate and protect against potential uncertainties.
  • Karl Frederic (Piirimae) (FP/Real Estate/1996) was recently elected Chairman of the Board of Newark Public Radio, Inc., the operator of WBGO 88.3 FM The Jazz Source, a public media company broadcasting and streaming jazz, blues, cultural and civic affairs programming from Newark, New Jersey. Karl is a partner at Windels Marx Lane & Mittendorf LLP where he has a multi-disciplinary practice focused on real estate, construction and redevelopment, with a particular emphasis on the pharmaceutical, healthcare, consumer packaged goods and biotech industries. He also is head of the Windels Marx Cannabis Law Practice.
  • Jay Fitton (PH/Investment Management/2016) recently joined U.S. Bank Global Fund as Assistant Vice President, Regulatory Administration at U.S. Bank Global Fund Services.
  • Dan Moonay (PH/Investment Management/1996) recently joined Glenmede as Deputy Chief Compliance Officer & Senior Counsel. In his role, he is responsible for providing legal and compliance support primarily to Glenmede Trust Company, N.A. Prior to joining Glenmede, Dan served as Managing Director and Senior Counsel in the Legal & Compliance group at BlackRock, Inc., where he supported BlackRock’s investment management businesses, including its institutional, outsourced chief investment officer, transition management, high net worth/retail separately managed account and managed model portfolio businesses. Before that, he served as Director and Counsel in Merrill Lynch & Co., Inc.’s Office of General Counsel, where he supported Merrill Lynch’s institutional separate account, retail separately managed account and unit investment trust businesses. Dan began his legal career as an associate in Drinker Biddle & Reath’s Investment Management Practice group.
  • Alan Di Sciullo (FP/Litigation/1977) recently retired as Director of Global Real Estate at Shearman & Sterling in New York. Alan is looking forward to spending more time with his wife, daughters, son-in-law and 9 month old granddaughter and reconnect with friends and work and professional colleagues over the decades. He will also continue teaching graduate and undergraduate courses in law and commercial leasing at New York University’s Schack Real Estate program and remain active with the ABA’s Real Property Trust Section and as a fellow in the American College of Real Estate. Alan also plans to devote more time to community and church activities and improve his golf game!
